Yes. *during* WW2. Speaking well of his subsequent actions in Eastern Europe didn’t do a lot for one’s social standing. I think it’s one thing to support the Russians killing Nazis in 1944, something else to explain or justify -even accuse the victims of provoking - something like Czechoslovakia in 1948 or Hungary in 1968
