An endless war in Ukraine will hit home for us very soon in ways most people do not envision. Ukraine produces over half of the Industrial NEON gas in the world (facilities in Mariupol and Odessa). Russia and China produce most of the rest. Neon is an essential and irreplaceable gas used in laser etching of microchips. It is very difficult to refine to 99.99% purity and even the largest chip manufacturers are quickly running out of supply. The price has skyrocketed if you can even get it. This shortage threatens to drastically slow down or even halt much of the microchip production the US and the world needs for production of any goods that have a microprocessor. The price of these items could go through the roof.
