How does Joe Manchin realistically compete for the Democrat nomination, when he’s so out of touch with the liberal radical base of the party?

I wonder about all this speculation about 2024, because, officially, aren’t we supposed to assume that Biden and Kamala will be running for reelection???

You hit the nail on the head. Manchin might be formidable candidate in a *general* election, but he has no prayer in the Democratic primary where most of the base despises him and everything he stands for.

Democrats don’t really have Primaries. They just pick whomever they want. Biden was getting crushed and they made everyone else drop out.

IDK about “officially” but I personally assume neither Biden nor Harris will be the democrat candidate. Manchin seems like a rational choice for them, but then they have never much cared about rationality.

That would be the one primary where the dems would have no choice but let bernie win the primary and take the "L" in the general election.

The radical leftist base would coalesce around bernie and most of the black dem voters will probably avoid voting altogether in the general as a protest. Bernie does not seem to resonate among the black dem voting base, but perhaps they can be told to "take one for the team" knowing that bernie will be able to be controlled and forced to kowtow to the black base if he wins.
