Even if there were NO source info at all, we could reverse engineer these things a heck of a lot quicker than this!
“My take is that by giving our old stock to Ukraine, we are pushing to update our inventory.
While I agree that will tend to force the issue, I’m not sure it’s a very good defensive posture to get rid of one weapon system years before replacing its function with a new system.
” and “our” police will jail or kill those who refuse to starve us.”
Trudeau proved that Western governments can make their populace do whatever they wish, so you are correct - if DC wants to starve Texas and/or Florida to death (as Stalin did with Ukraine), they can EASILY do that.
“For example, the contracts will be full of things like the necessity for having black engineers, women owned suppliers, and a host of environmental requirements, like no chromium or cadmium (used to prevent corrosion.) So far, no one has had the balls to go after the sacred cows that populate the entire industry from one end to the other. A lot of the problems come straight from Congress.”
During the 1993 Earthquake in California, a (very large) overcrossing of the I-10 Freeway in West Los Angeles collapsed. Governor Pete Wilson called up the president of Williams Brothers (or whoever was the biggest contractor in California) and told him to replace the bridge, and they’d discuss the details of the contract later. In something like a week (maybe a month) traffic was flowing on I-10 again.
But I also agree with you, given the bunch we have running the government, plus the groups and judges ready to HALT just about anything important to the country - not happening with respect to military readiness. We’ll likely have to hope to not need those Stingers for several years until the SDB Content, Engine-owned companies, and God knows what else is satisfied.
As a 3 war Marine (Semper fi) my father was quite knowledgeable regarding guerilla warfare. He came back from Nam in 1964 from being part of the advisors before we committed ground troops. He told me that it was all going to go sideways, that we did not know how to deal with guerilla warfare, particularly in that geography and with the oriental way of thinking. He predicted it would turn out just as it did.
It is a mistake to assume that our troops will never be on the “insurgent” side of the equation. Technical superiority causes hubris. That’s bad.
I don’t believe them.
They are reaching the end of their design life at the end of the year.
US Army will replace Raytheon FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS ...

The US Army is progressing with the replacement of the Raytheon FIM-92 Stinger passive-guided man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) and has released a RFI on 10 November aiming to acquire up to 8,000 missiles by FY2026. The FIM-92 Stinger is a short-range air-defence (SHORAD) surface-to-air missile system.
aiming to acquire up to 8,000 missiles by FY2026
************
Most of FY 2026 will be in the calendar year 2027.
And deliveries assume no troublesome contractual or technical issues arise.
Doesn’t sound like we have done sufficient contingency planning.
That’s basically making the same exact assertion just with different words. They’ll be effective against Chinese aircraft except stealth. And stealth is so expensive that it’ll rarely be used in air-to-ground ops where a stinger is going to be used.
The links at 2 and 10 indicate that is the issue.
This could also be a politically motivated corporate policy. They're shootin' 'em at our pals, so we won't make more!
Sure, as you please. On the other hand, if it is terribly uneconomic, it wouldn’t be feasible.
What? Did they get Dirk Pitt and James bond to steal it for the west during the Soviet era???
What a Raytheon load.
