Sierra Club concerned over increase in American River fires, linking it to homeless camps

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A new report from the Sacramento Sierra Club shows there were three times as many fires along the American River Parkway last year compared to 2019. It attributes the increase to climate change and the surge in homeless camps in the area over the last few years.

The rise in fires happened at the same time the county stopped enforcing an ordinance against illegal camping, the report states. The change followed a federal court decision that found that local governments could not ban camping unless they were providing alternatives, like enough shelters.

While the Sacramento Regional Coalition to End Homelessness acknowledges there is no disputing that there has been an increase in the number of fires in the parkway, Executive Director Bob Erlenbusch said to focus on people experiencing homelessness is counter-productive. He said the county and the city are to blame for not being proactive in providing a safe way for people to cook or stay warm.

He believes the fire department should go out and do fire-safety training.

"It's been frustrating not to have special fire pits set aside," Erlenbusch said. "I mean, at one point even the mayor, I think a couple months ago, proposed having fire extinguishers at encampments but that never moved forward."

Let's build them suffleboard courts while we are at it. But let's not remember the rape and murder commited by the homeless in this area.

Community reacts to arrest in rape and murder case of Rancho Cordova woman

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Arden-Arcade resident Carly Figel fell in love with Sacramento because of the bike trails in the American River Parkway. She never expected the peaceful, tree-lined roads could be the backdrop to a violent crime.

"It’s terrifying that can happen," Figel said. "It’s so sad that someone actually got killed out here." Authorities announced on Thursday night the arrest of 37-year- old Mikilo Rawls for the rape and murder of Emma Roark. She was just 20-years old.

This is a hypocritical “environmental group” that looks the other way as the delicate flora and fauna of the desert border areas are being destroyed by illegals flooding across the border.

What about that, Sierra Club?

Insanity. Sheer and total insanity.

Why not shuffleboard courts? When taxpayer dollars are at stake, there is no ceiling on the stupidity.

Ironic... Considering their own agenda, lobbying, and lawsuits created the homeless in the first place. More blowback from real world cause and effect.

Climate change — is there anything it can’t do?

This article states perfectly why the homeless camps have increased so much: They don't enforce the laws.

You can hardly go anywhere in Sacramento that you don't see an encampment. Sometimes, if the local residents are lucky, the police will do their job and chase/clean up the camp. This only happens if the surrounding residents make enough noise. The homeless just come back.

Sacramento used to be a pretty place. Now it's just one big set of plastic tarps butted up against another. Giving them fire extinguishers and fire pits is the stupidest idea I've heard.

Climate change. Of course. That’s why homeless people are starting fires, to keep warm during climate change. Boy these Sierra Clubbers are real scientists.

Yup. The invasion is destroying a LOT of ground cover along the aleged border. Not to mention the vast amount of trash left behind. And the hazmat containers full of contaminated face mask.................... Oh. Guess face masks weren’t that big a deal huh? I believe they’ve taken over from tossed cig butts as the biggest number of discarded trash around.

Yep. They would just pawn the fire extinguishers, and ignore the fire pits. But this nonsense would kick the can down the road for a month or two. So go for it, liberals.

What to do about the "homeless" can indeed be emotionally complex, mentally challenging and even physically difficult, but one thing is certain:
Sooner or later a responsible society will have to do something about it, often forcibly, lest that society begin to crumble, starting at the local level. Indulgence, compassion and optimism that this serious condition will resolve itself simply won't cut it. The problem will continue to worsen until it's not allowed to continue; until it is effectively dealt with.

” The homeless just come back.”

They always do. You see an empty space, filed with one tent, that one tent turns into 10 overnight. The idiotic thing here in L.A are the church-based charities who feed these clowns. It’s a cycle based on the pastor who runs the church close-by:

Bring a lawsuit against the state for its actions causing Environmental contamination of our water and air resources.

The E.coli alone from human waste entering our streams and rivers is easy to demonstrate. Yeah fires, trash, hazardous waste (needles)

All of this is on Newsom and the legislators

Climate change no, irresponsible dregs on society yes.

Anything you reward you get more of, and the left have been rewarding bums for decades so why are they surprised there are more now then before and that these bums care nothing about anything other then their next drink or drug.

They are allowed to live lives without any responsibility because the left has given them permission to steal what they want, crap where they want, live where they want regardless of what normal honest hard working citizens want.

Don’t tell me people voted for this, we now know the Democrats can steal elections by rigging the count.

the Sierra Club used to support stabilizing the US population at about 250 MILLION. They were opposed to uncontrolled immigration. George Soros and others like him paid the membership of radical open borders supporters to bring it into line with the rest of the open borders left. For the last 30 years the Sierra Club has just been a rubber stamp for open borders, and radical environmentalism even as mass immigration increases pollution and drains resources. In other words, it’s a fraud.

Reading through this thread it is incredible how many are addressing how to mask the symptoms rather than address how to stop the historical root cause of the underlying disease. What we are seeing is the direct resulting cause and effect from the 60 year old communist/environmental efforts of the Sierra Club themselves.

They alone started and perpetuated the environmental agenda which has now spread around the world. It is destroying business, industry, and economies from the extreme radical cultist over regulation. The resulting cause and effect is destroyed economies and creating the homelessness. Tired of the homeless? Want to remove the homeless? Then cure the root disease that is creating even more homeless...

WHEN areas are NOT safe-—I don’t care what kinds of promotion companies do to attract good employees.

Examples:

DEFUND the police/sheriffs
REFUSE to hold all levels of criminals-—NO BAIL
REFUSE to prosecute criminals
RELEASE convicted criminals from jail/prison “OVER COVID”
REFUSE to round up those released & put back into cells
PROSECUTE the non-violent public for buying guns/ammo or having same
PREVENT with insane laws the public ability to obtain guns/ ammo
POLITICIANS who have 24 hour security mouth platitudes

IF I do NOT feel safe where I live & work——I WILL MOVE.
I HAVE-—3 times starting in 1964 from Milwaukee. FROM So Calif in 1993. FROM N Calif in 2004.

You want a solid/trained/experienced work force with NO criminal records???

Support local police & serious LAW ENFORCEMENT and INCARCERATION!!!!

Meanwhile-—many of us WILL take up arms & be ready to protect our lives—our families—our possessions—our homes

WE ARE LEFT NO CHOICE

WHY is this such a MYSTERY to so many???
