I worked in Venezuela and was there during the initial coup attempt.
In the twenty years after I worked with many Venezuelan engineers in the US; our company hired them right and left. They had exactly the experience we needed, and were glad to come to a location not many American engineers wanted to come to. Eventually our clients started hiring them away from us, they liked them and trusted them.
Because they had once signed an anti-Chavez petition they were banned from working in their own country.
For us it was a win-win. For my part, I liked them.
I know. Hydro is good too. But damned if they don’t always find some reason that these methods can’t be used.

Even Galileo was permitted to argue for Copernicus’s heliocentric theory, presenting supporting observations made using a telescope. Where he screwed up was in teaching his then unproven theory as fact. Back in his day, teaching an unproven theory (such as anthropogenic global warming) as fact was forbidden.

When Allende took over in Chile, he “bought” all of the General Tire production facilities for $1. Several years later, he tried to sneak through the back door and buy parts for the machines. Everyone said “No!”.
I remember when he took power, he said he would double everyone’s income and freeze prices, which he did. I also remember Tom Streithorst standing the streets of Santiago saying that if he pulled that off, we would have to rewrite all of the economics textbooks. Allende was shot to death in another coup, which proves a point: Don’t screw around with the laws of supply and demand.
