When I saw the video that is the subject of this post, I thought it was a fake. It seemed impossible to me that anyone could remain so calm while a criminal is shooting at him during a high-speed chase. But that’s exactly what the video shows: An Oklahoma State trooper chasing a criminal at high speeds, with the criminal shooting at the trooper, who calmly reports it all to headquarters on the radio.
The car chase began on Saturday, April 2, when police in Sedona, Arizona, contacted the Oklahoma High Patrol (“OHP”) to be on the lookout for a car that Charles Carswell, an armed robbery suspect, was driving. When OHP troopers located Carswell, they attempted to stop him, but he fled. The troopers followed and Carswell began firing at them. Eventually, after several unsuccessful attempts to perform a “tactical vehicle intervention” (“TVI”), the troopers were able to stop Carswell.
At that point, Carswell grabbed a rifle and began firing at the officers in dead earnest. Eventually, the troopers were able to end the gun battle by killing Carswell.
The OHP posted the video on Facebook, along with a little explanation. I can’t embed the post, but here’s the explanation:
This is dash cam and body cam from the pursuit that ended on the Turner Turnpike on April 2. The suspect, Charles Carswell, led Trooper Brack Miller #950 on a pursuit and shot through his back windshield at Trooper Miller several times during the pursuit. Trooper Miller was able to successfully bring the pursuit to an end with a tactical vehicle intervention. Trooper Miller only suffered minor injuries.

But get a load of this...
Family speaks out on behalf of deceased Turner Turnpike standoff victim
What is amazing is that with all that drama coming at him, he was able to effectuate a perfect pit stop with the suspect firing at him. This officer is as close to Batman in a uniform as one could imagine.
“Batman”?? Seriously?
WOW!
Just WOW!
I have worked the other end of the radio during police pursuits - that is the calmest voice I’ve ever heard.
I’m thinking more Joe Friday. :-)
This bitch needs to have her ass kicked. I expect that shit from Baby Mama. F her.
This guy is one cool customer. This isn’t his first time under fire. I wonder if he’s done a tour or 2 in the sandbox.
CC
Smooth and cool
Asked a pilot in an Attack Helicopter Bn (Cobra) once about being shot at. He told me pilots depended on the “Little Bullet - Big Sky” theory.
This guy, despite big brass balls, probably thought the same about the probability of a hit.
Having been shot at I can say training kicks in but the Pucker Factor can’t be denied. I still get a cold feeling in the bottom of my gut when I hear an AK.
But of course
You can see what the deceased Carswell looks like here in the video. https://www.newson6.com/story/6249f7b7541d8e0729b4cab1/ohp:-suspect-in-turner-turnpike-pursuit-shooting-identified-
The dude had the largest gauge earrings I have ever seen. About 1” in diameter in each ear. He looked bizarre!
It’s called the Pit Maneuver (and in OK they go for the fancy name of “TVI” which means Tactical Vehicle Intervention.)
A Pit Stop is during a Race and the Racecar(s) pull off the Racetrack for Service ie: Fueling, change Tyres and make adjustments and/or repairs.
Those OK Folks would do better if they bumped into the LR corner of the perpmobile. That allows for the LEO to keep the perp in sight/That way the perp can be shot by the LEO or crash into the driver’s door more than likely inducing a Barrel Roll. Kinda like putting the perp in a Blender ride.
BTW— has anyone else noticed that the OK State Trooper is NOT wearing His SEATBELT !?!??? $$$$$$$$
Where’s My Ticket Book ?
DS censors at work (must protect criminals):
“This content isn’t available right now”
Coming soon to the Indy 500.
The “Whoa, that was ugly” was NOT the trooper’s response to a shot, but his reaction to nearly losing control after he failed at a TVI (tactical vehicle intervention, aka PIT).
Oddly, the OHP edited the video of the shots impacting the trooper’s windshield which are visible directly in his line of sight as he inspects the damage to his cruiser at the end of the video.
I’d like to see the video of the shootout which followed as he exchanged fire with the OHP tactical officers (and thereupon was shot/killed).
When your grandparents were pioneers who dealt with much more everyday—This is like recess.
Kentucky Derby is about 2 weeks away....ALREADY.
Indy 500 practice is just around the corner...
