Hollywood missing the drama in climate change, group says

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hollywood’s response to climate change includes donations, protests and other activism. but it’s apparently missing out on an approach close to home.

Only a sliver of screen fiction, 2.8%, refers to climate change-related words, according to a new study of 37,453 film and TV scripts from 2016-20. A blueprint for ways to turn that around was released Tuesday.

“Good Energy: A Playbook for Screenwriting in the Age of Climate Change” was created with feedback from more than 100 film and TV writers, said Anna Jane Joyner, editor-in-chief of the playbook and founder of Good Energy, a nonprofit consultancy.

Among those who provided funding for the playbook project are Bloomberg Philanthropies, Sierra Club and the Walton Family Foundation.

The entertainment industry’s failure to use its storytelling powers more effectively on the issue seems unsurprising to Joyner, who’s been working on climate-change communications in various sectors and communities for 15 years.

For the first decade, it felt like “screaming into the void” because of the lack of response, Joyner said. But there is evidence of increasing concern among Americans regarding climate change, she said, including those who are in Hollywood.

“We’ve all gone through a kind of awakening,” she said. There are a number of documentaries and news programs about climate change, she said, expressing optimism that fiction creators will make steady progress.

How much juice and CO2 were abused to create this drivel?

The only drama about climate change is the drama itself. We're so stupid today we panic over perhaps the best time climate-wise to be alive!

In the past few warm periods (Medieval Warm Period, Romand Warm Period, Minoan Warm Period) people were smart enough to appreciate the good life of high crop yields, good rain patterns, and low deaths from plagues. They all preferred life in their times over life in the recent cool periods of their ancestors (Little Ice Age, Dark Age, Greek Dark Age).

The problem is that if they directly approach the issue, they come across as preachy and “message” movies.

What made “Don’t look up” so good and hilarious is that it is easy to interpret it as making fun of Climate alarmists, rather than the deniers like me. I loved it.

But some “post apocalyptic” movies that blame everything on “global warming” don’t go over well. Snowpiercer was kinda funny. The whole premise was actually that we thought we simply had to do something about “global warming” so we destroyed the world’s ecosystem, leading to a great ice age.

This is pure BS. Netflix, Hulu and Prime constantly have movies.about mankind, having killed Mother Gaia, now must escape, fight for limited resources, try to save the Earf, etc. There’s more of those movies than you can shake a stick at.

Most I just downrate without watching.

What’s the carbon footprint of the entertainment industry? Maybe they need to cease to exist for the good of the erf.

There have been several movies and TV shows about climate disaster. They have been financial failures.

But that does not matter to communists. Finances are irrelevant when it comes to propaganda.

Don’t Look Up. Yeah, we got quite a laugh watching it. So much fiction, so little time. But, once again we get the “If we act today and don’t wait any longer, we COULD save the planet.” Now, where did I put the barricade to my front door of the mud hut?

What a farce. Sure, make movies centered around global warming. That’ll bring in the big bucks. As a comedy maybe. Get Mel Brooks on the phone.
I’m sure that’ll play well in Chy-nah.

BTW

Who isnt inspired by the way Hollywood, the media figures and our government leaders are not only talking the talking but walking the walk.
The way they have ALL concerned to green is a inspiration.
Down sizing to tiny solar homes. Driving EVs...giving up their petroleum based laptops and smart phones.

even this morning, Racist Gayle King was doing her part to discuss the WEATHER EXTREMES given the snow in the Northeast. I guess she never noticed that Spring snow in April is not uncommon. heck, people are still skiing in upstate NY.

Didn’t a sabre tooth tiger eat them at the end of the movie? (Or, was about to?)

It was even funnier than that. The AI said she would die by being eaten by a named animal that nobody had heard of, and then, 25,000 years later, they land on another planet, the first thing that happens is she is eaten by a wild animal and the guy said, “I believe that was a - and repeated the animal’s name.

Not only fake but dangerously b*ss ackwards. Real science has given us a climate prediction. And, literally “By Jove” it’s not driven by man but by gravity with the gas giants named for pagan gods producing the variation. The proper drama theme, with institutional disbelief we’ll presented, was Game of Thrones’s “Winter is coming!” Solar output varies over time. A pattern has been teased out of that data which when extrapolated back hundreds, even thousands of years, fits all the available climate proxies far better than the greenie models. Subsequent studies showed that pattern closely fits the orbital motion… of the sun! Copernicus, refined by Newton etc says all the solar system rotates more specifically about its center of mass, its barycenter. Sun is most of that mass to its center is near but not quite at the barycenter. So sun wobbles around that, tugged by the rest of the mass. NASA’s orbital models show this well. The wobble affects its output and is now predicable. And earth’s orbit also varies a bit from giant planet influences, also predictably.

Zharkova has run the numbers, had her original paper retracted by greenie editors, but will have a revised paper with even stronger data out shortly. It predicts lower solar output, a “Grand Solar Minimum,” for 33 years, starting already in 2020. Plus northern hemisphere winter is coming with the earth a tad farther from sun than usual. That’s a 1000 year cycle which is nearing its nadir. After that a couple hundred years of relative warming, then another minimum, then another couple hundred years warming, then starting c. 2600 a thousand years of reduced solar output and likely another ice age!
