He's committing a type of logical fallacy. The crime problem is mostly at the city level, not the state level, although certain states like CA and NY have essentially decriminalized many non-violent crimes. Who runs large cities in red states? Democrats of course.

Tulsa, which has a Republican mayor, has the 14th highest murder rate according to this list of the cities with the highest murder rates:
