I don’t think there should NATO/US infantry going into Ukraine to help them at all. But I do know we were defending against the ussr/russians for many decades to the risk of full scale nuclear war to defend against communism.

I’m sure he’s not benign. He’s looking to win, just like the oligarchs here, and we’re the ones losing.
The old USSR was ruled by the Politburo. If they had a crazy guy, at least he would be moderated by the other rational guys on the Politburo. Now? It’s just Putin.
