MADISON, Wis. — When he was a little boy roaming the forests and marshes of Illinois, Rick Lindroth adored catching frogs and climbing trees. His dream came true when he became a full-time scientist, paid to make observations in nature. Even when he’s not on officially the job, with binoculars dangling from his neck, he will effortlessly spot a bald eagle’s nest from his fly-fishing stream in Big Spring valley.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison ecologist also belongs to an evangelical church and has struggled with deep despair over climate change. He has had a front-row seat observing the effects of a warming atmosphere through the aspen trees he has studied for decades. But he lacks the support of many within the evangelical community.
White evangelicals are less likely than other religious group in the U.S. to see a strong connection between human activities and global climate change, according to the Pew Research Center. Just 54 percent of White evangelicals say that human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels, contributes to global climate change, compared with 76 percent of all U.S. adults, a Pew study in January found.
Lindroth said his 93-year-old evangelical father, while proud of his scientist son, repeats conservative media claims about the veracity of climate change rather than considering Lindroth’s own research. One church friend who owns a large SUV has joked that he needs such a large vehicle so he could fit Jesus’ 12 disciples inside. When Lindroth has spoken at his own Blackhawk Church on the topic of climate change, he has received a range of responses. One person requested his hand in marriage. Another person heckled him.

WHat climate despair?
To fight climate despair, this Christian ecologist says science isn’t enoughClimate despair???
Who/what will be our next expert? A black lesbian Christian transgender morphodite?
Judging by the record traffic levels in my area, we have nearly no climate crazies in my area.
I have never seen, heard or read of any actual climate scientist asking for even private jets to be grounded.
I have never seen, heard or read of any actual climate scientist asking for immigration to high per capita CO2 emission countries to be halted.
Does this ecologist think that the world was more Godlike and humane before industrialization and fossil fuels? When streets were rampant with human waste and pollution and wood burning stoves? When human life was cheap before Christianity and the enlightenment period brought forth enlightenment and enough wealth that he could spend his life bird watching and condemning that which brought him his life of leisure?
No evidence this person is a Christian.
The word Christian means almost nothing.
Evangelical means nothing.
He probably does indeed attend meetings in a building and there is a word like evangelical on the sign out front. What more do we know? As an evangelical Baptist pastor since 1978 I can speak from direct experience.
He can speak to the changes that he has observed among the trees that he has studied, but what else?
Dear Rick. Quit the dispair about something none of us control. Waste of your time. Buy some tires and get set up for erf day 4/23.
I don't see any clear scientific evidence of man made climate change, at least none that calls for turning over everything to a central government.
CO2 levels have gone up, primarily from the burning of fuels, it appears.
How much that is linked to the temperature going up, is in dispute.
The easiest way to stop climate despair is to stop watching the MSM - they are full of baloney. Scared people watch the news more to see if they should still be scared. And of course the message is, “Be afraid. Be very afraid. All the time.”
Pathetic is the word for this guy. Where is his faith in God? That alone must give one a healthy skepticism that He made the world so sensitive and imbalanced that so slight a thing as man’s simply existing could throw it into chaos.
Can you imagine what it would have been like around here if all these environmental goons were running around hysterically at the end of the Ice Age?
“Climate Despair”
We’re all doomed.
We are currently in an Ice Age - proper term is continental glaciation called the Quaternary (2.6 million years ago to now). Defined to be a period of cyclic continental glaciations. For roughly 12,000 we have enjoyed a warming trend, we built civilization! Yay us! The ice sheets will advance again someday, it’s just a matter of when! There is nothing man can do about it!
I think the audacity of humans that believe they can change the climate need hard anti psychotics. Worse are the fools who are trying to change the climate.
“Man makes planes, God laughs.
Spew the volcanoes!
Gloom,despair, and agony on me.🙄
True evangelicals know that our life on here on earth is brief and don't concern ourselves with such foolishness.
White evangelicals don’t all think alike? I am really tired of this “let’s put everyone into boxes” mentality.
Science isn’t enough, because it’s a religion.
So this alleged Christian is saying that God isn’t in control man is .
