The leader before Zelenskyy was reviled by Azov despite him putting them into parliament and into the formal national guard. He was their man.
The leader before that was a Russian plant from the Donbass who poisoned his rival and then fled the country for Russia after taking a boatload of money from the Kremlin.
Zelenskyy was a no hoper Jewish TV actor whose first language is Russian and who had to learn Ukrainian. His running as president was seen by the intelligence forces all over as unlikely to succeed. Jewish, Russian, not a nazi, not a Putin stooge.
I’m not remotely convinced that he was under Kremlin or CIA influence when he won - but even if he had been, he certainly isn’t now. So both sides were equally annoyed when he won the election.
The spanner in the works is the bogus stuff about Nazis in the Donbass being Zelenskyy’s fault. Russia put far more nazis into there before his election and before the “special military operation” than Zelenskyy ever did. Thousands of Russian neonazis and mercenaries have been in there since 2012.
From 2019 to Feb 2022, Azov was shrinking. What happened in February? Azov became the most experienced and most battle hardened best armed Home Guard after Russia invaded. So naturally it grew.
That’s how Russian “special” action has increased the death rate of Donbass pro-Russian civilians by a minimum of 1200%. Russia killed a lot of its own civilians, Azov started growing again.
That is based on maximizing the highest estimate of noncombatant pro Russian civilian casualties over 8 years, and taking the absolute lowest equivalent stat for the last fifty days, with both stats bent massively in Russian favor. It’s the lowest possible percentage. Reality is, the actual figure could very easily be 6000%.
So in reality ten years of Russian interference in Donbass is singularly responsible for propping up Donbass nazism, putting Donbass Nazis into parliament, and keeping Azov armed. I bet that suited the CIA.
Along came Zelenskyy and the Russian Donbass puppets AND the Nazis were voted out. Zelenskyy became the unknown quantity. Russia hated that, the CIA were unsettled.
