I think the Slava’s were designed like Sovremenny’s. Launch missiles and get busy sinking. That’s why the missiles were on the outside. They weren’t designed to be on the ship when incoming was headed their way. An F-16’s cannon would rip the ship apart if the missiles were there.

The ship was built in Mykolaiv in Ukraine, and there are people in Ukraine who served on her. They knew its weaknesses, and may even had the plans for it somewhere.

And I dearly hope that more than just 54 guys got off alive.

Sadly, more Russian casualties could cause the war to end sooner, saving civilian lives. So the more Russians that die, the fewer civilians die. That is the reality. War is an ugly business.
