I was stationed at Tempelhof in West Berlin for three years in the mid 60’s. “Special communications”. Gee, and here I thought the Cold War was over! Not.
A reminder about the Powell Doctrine (modified Weinburger Doctrine) when considering military action by the US:
1. Is a vital national security interest threatened?
2. Do we have a clear attainable objective?
3. Have the risks and costs been fully and frankly analyzed?
4. Have all other nonviolent policy means been fully exhausted?
5. Is there a plausible exit strategy to avoid endless entanglement?
6. Have the consequences of our action been fully considered?
7. Is the action supported by the American people?
One FReeper has provided an answer to 1). Going on memory as I did not bookmark in time, but stated that Russia threatening countries in Eastern Europe can affect stability in Europe itself.
But no FReeper who has called for overt US military involvement in the Ukraine has answered all seven questions.
One excuse by a FReeper is that Powell was a failure, so the questions are not valid. That’s a sign of intellectual laziness trying to be covered up (poorly) by calling Powell a failure. Either they are valid questions or they are not.
...good point....the article referenced Romania’s Block 15 F-16s.....gad...! they must belong in a museum...! I worked on Block 30 F-16s (with the very reliable General Electric engine....) for many years; lots of those “birds” have become target drones or are sitting in the sun at the Davis Monthan “boneyard”......
How did we go from a press that was Save the Whales Global Warming to a press that is rooting for WW3?
Putin could overrun Latvia and NATO would do nothing.
All seven are valid questions. At this point, the answer is no to all seven. We aren’t there yet.
Problem is, the Doctrine is excellent, but I am not sure that those in charge care about those seven questions because they operate working for an agenda that isn’t just American.
Guess it’s all about controlling the populous....by whatever means necessary.
Our rainbow military is here to save the day! I hope they figured out their pronoun and diversity and inclusion problems before they shipped out.
Thanks for the links, especially #2.
The long-established Odessa JEWISH militia takes the same Ukrainian side as the “evil” Azov Battalion. (While Putin injects Chechin troops led by treacherous Muslim general...)
