Pouring it on: Climate change made 2020 hurricanes rainier
The Associated Press ^ | April 12, 2022 | By SETH BORENSTEIN (D-AP)

Climate change made the record-smashing deadly 2020 Atlantic hurricane season noticeably wetter, a new study says. And it will likely make this season rainier, too, scientists said.

Human-caused climate change made the entire season -- 30 named storms -- drop 5% more rain. During the 14 storms that reached hurricane status the rainfall was 8% heavier, according to the study in Tuesday’s Nature Communications.

“It doesn’t sound like a lot, but if you’re near a threshold, a little bit can push you over the top,” said Lawrence Berkeley National Lab climate scientist Michael Wehner, co-author of the paper. “The implication is that that means there was more freshwater flooding and that the damages from freshwater flooding were increased, but by how much would require a more detailed analysis.”

While past studies have predicted climate change would make storms wetter and found individual storms, such as 2017’s Harvey, were in fact wetter because of human-caused climate change, this is the first study to look at an entire season, Wehner said. That’s important because it removes the selection bias of just picking the worst storms, such as Harvey.

The researchers used computer simulations -- continually updated with real-time observations -- to calculate how much water fell during the 30 storms and then compared them to a simulated world with no human caused climate change from the burning of coal, oil and natural gas. The difference is what’s caused by global warming. This scientifically accepted technique came up with the 5% and 8% figures.

AP announces sweeping climate journalism initiative

Feb. 15, 2022

The Associated Press announced today it will significantly expand its climate coverage, creating a standalone desk that will enhance the global understanding of climate change and its impact across the world.

The initiative will infuse the global media landscape with a new stream of quality climate journalism through both AP content and in-depth training and collaboration directly with AP’s thousands of customers worldwide.

The news agency will also launch an AP StoryShare network for climate coverage, allowing news organizations to share their content with one another and in turn provide more robust coverage for their audiences.

The expansion is supported by several philanthropic organizations, including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Quadrivium and The Rockefeller Foundation. AP retains complete editorial control of all content.

“Unbiased, fact-based journalism has never been more important or imperiled,” said Larry Kramer, president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. “The Associated Press has, for over a century, played a crucial role reporting on the most pressing issues of our time, including climate change. The climate initiative will build on AP’s legacy of independent journalism and help millions better understand the impact of the climate crisis and counter climate-related misinformation.”

Every year there are variation in ‘climate’ statistics. Thusly, they are under the umbrella of “climate change”

I think we should circulate a new term; “Freedom change”

Every year we can attribute variations in the statistics about human liberty as “freedom change”

By the year 2035 all liberty will be completely snuffed. Start the clock

Cherry picking bad data does not a trend make.
It will always be wetter, drier, warmer or colder somewhere, all you have to do is find it and write an alarmist report to blame it on climate change.

No shock there. The most severe droughts occur during centuries long cooling periods (like the Little Ice Age of AD 1300-1800's, the Dark Age from AD 300-900, and the Greek Dark Age from 1100 BC to 300 BC). We're in the Modern Warm Period -- a period of relatively good crop yields, better precipitation rates, and lower plague deaths.

Saying there's more rain should be responded to with "you expect anything different this warm period?".

There’s no such thing as “climate Change.”

It’s just more bullshit from the left in order to impose their communist agenda.

I guess we will never be done with this unproven horse puckey about climate change. What makes anyone think that we can change the climate? It’s scary to even think any human possibly could, because there are probably a million different ideas about what the climate ideal should be. Of course, it costs tons of money to even try to change the climate & therein lies the answer to all this. We only need to need to follow the money & discover the “geniuses” existing at the end of the trail.

Computer simulations to perform “attribution science” or “attribution statistics.” It has failed in court cases due to fundamental flaws, and no it is not ‘Scientifically accepted.” Except by the likes of Borenstein.
