It is from comment threads like this where I re-learn how self-deluded any person can become. Why German citizens had no problem with mass murder, how Hutu and Tutsi's continue their endless feud.

Perhaps the most disturbing are those that will pervert the very core founding document of the nation by just walking by the line - "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Slavery - the institution completely at odds with this very same declaration - was the reason for the war. All else is just secondary issues or smokescreens.

Why so many wish to justify the sins of their fathers is a mystery - we have enough of our own to deal with.
