A general would have a detail with him. There would be dozens captured or dead from fighting to prevent his capture.
The idea the USA would send a general officer into this situation is absurd. I have no doubt the USA/NATO are involved in this war, but they will use CIA or other "plausible-deniability" people/organizations.
