London (AFP) – UK climate activist group Extinction Rebellion shut down London's iconic Tower Bridge on Friday after two of its protesters abseiled over its sides.
The activists were hanging from the bridge by suspension cords after unfurling a banner reading "End fossil fuels now" and letting off red flares.
Tower Bridge was chosen as "the gateway to the City of London -- the root source of fossil fuel funding in the UK", Extinction Rebellion said in a statement, adding it ushered in a week of protests.
The Metropolitan Police were on site but said they had made no arrests.

Anyone ever notice that “protesters” and “activists” never seem to have jobs? Do they just call in sick or do they say I’m going to cause a giant traffic snarl/burn a Wendys/loot a couple of stores/etc. today and by the time I’m arrested and processed out I’ll be out for a few days?

If they REALLY cared and REALLY believed that fossil fuels are destroying the planet, you’d think they’d focus their energies and brain cells into something useful like, maybe, figuring out a better, WORKABLE form of fuel/energy….

Hmm. Maybe they are getting remunerated for their protest and activism? When I was in Graz, Austria, many years ago, I chatted up most amicably with an "end the war for oil" young man who volunteered he was being paid by a non-Austrian NGO.

Back in the ‘80’s I worked on a project important enough to get a “courtesy” briefing from the FBI. This wide-ranging briefing not only discussed direct attempts to spy on our project (the KGB bought a building down the street to place listening towers on) but also they showed us checks in amounts from around $600 to individuals to $10,000 to clubs and organizations like environmental activists, LGB groups and legal groups that regularly sued the government. These checks were all to the same account, a KGB front organization. The idea was to create as much discord and disruption in society as possible. (Some of this backfired as the LGB movement, intended to destroy the family, has moved into Russia.) My point is that there are still elements from this operation in action today. Whether they realize it or not, groups like the Southern Poverty Law organization, George Soros and his companies, all had their start from America’s enemies. That’s how people who don’t have jobs but constantly have money to travel so they can disrupt society get paid.
Strip them of any and everthing derived by any means from so called ‘fossil fuels/petroleum by-products’. Either on their person or wherever they reside. Is it in anyway produced using these things? GONE! I really don’t care for these assclowns.
We eat oil, at least indirectly. No windmill or solar panel will supply us with chemical feedstocks. Guess they haven’t figured this out yet.

You would think that these sort of thing would classify as organized crime under the RICCO statutes even if the individual actions weren’t major crimes. I know that a bunch of organized shoplifters in Florida were charged with felonies last year even though what individuals stole was under the felony amount because of the organized nature of the crimes with a lot of different people working for the same criminal organization (no it wasn’t the Bidens - they haven’t been charged yet and probably never will)
