I never knew we were talking about Jerusalem. The Mongols did make it to parts of the ME, but were driven off by the Mamluks, who also drove out the Crusaders.

You mean, the Crusaders were there until 1948?
I thought the Mongols got as far as Persia. Wrecked what was, at that time, one of the most advanced civilizations in the world. But they never got as far as Israel (or the Kingdom of Jerusalem, or whoever held it at the time).
They were players in the politics there. Crusaders, Muslims tried to make deals with them so that they’d attack the other side.
