A company planted a Solar Panel Farm near me and it is HUGE! I often wonder when driving by what is happening to the surrounding area and land now that all the sun’s energy is being lost to the panels. There is no free lunch so the cost or fallout of these panels will become self evident in the future.

I never cared for the idea of solar farms. Both for the reason you stated and because solar is unstable for grid power. The grid needs to be stable power. Solar has no place on the grid unless there's a fossil power source that can be throttled up and down as needed (to offset intermittent solar).

But solar on the roof or anywhere on one's property and meant to feed power to just that one family can be quite practical if you do it correctly (and have variables in your favor like living in the south where we get lots of sun).
