Youse Guys have been saying some version of that since the late 60’s. I can recall the very first Earth Day in April of 1970. I was in about the eighth grade.
The day was symbolized by a green American Flag. The flag had an ‘E’ were the stars and stripes usually are.
That ‘E’ was for, what else? The Ecology. Many spoke of ‘the ecology and ‘Mother Earth’.
One year later, Marin Gaye would being singing about The Ecology on his famous album ‘What’s Goin’ On?”
Used to be the opposite version!

You must remember the Great Famine of 1975, and having to wear gas masks when going outside, and the clothes on your back dissolving from the acid rain.
Yes, I remember the stupid, hysterical claims that never came to pass.
