On more than a few occasions over the years, I have been involved on the ground, where we could hardly keep out heads on strait, as we had to deal with mutilated families, including little children... I am not going to lie, we were all Soldiers and Marines, but it would break all of us...
I have been in situations where children were still alive, but would soon die from various intentional and gruesome injuries, and there was nothing we could do but hold them in our arms, until hey were with Jesus...
Once while I was nearing the end of my day, the sun was just coming up, and a school bus full of young girls was blown up by Iranian Shia insurgents in downtown Baghdad. The intent was to get either the Iraqi Army, and or us to respond, just to try and take a bunch of us out. We responded thinking we knew we were simply going strait into a trap or ambush.
We responded very rapidly. Upon arrival to the scene, a “daisy-chain” went off in two sides, and continued down a market street full of people who had rushed out to try and either save he girls, or to see what just happened.
There were nearly 1500 casualties from that one incident.
Men, women, and children were dead all around is. There were vodies of dead children all around us... The sound of the children and women crying, and the wntoe scene was pure evil and satanic... as we secured the scene, there were little people reaching up to us and crying out for help all around.
Years later, just NW of Kirkuk (after Kirkuk was destroyed by heavy ISIS assault on the largely Kurdish city), we engaged a bunch of ISIS fighters who had taken a bunch of young children, after torturing their parents to death in front of them. We were so angry, we pursued them till we caught them. We ended them, and were able to save those specific children,
However, those little people had been brutalized, and were traumatized. One starved but beautiful little girl (probably about 6-7, let go of her little sisters hand (which she had been holding for about two days), ran up to me, and grabbed my right fingers, and with tears just streaming down her face, begged me to not leave her and her sister...
Very similar, I once had another very malnourished, but beautiful little Kenyan girl (maybe 5-6), run up to me (after a fight with Al Shabaab), grab my hand, and with dirty tears just string down her face, beg me not to leave her there...
Folks, this stuff is reality under evil.
Evil exists, and THE ENEMY is real. He is a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Our real fight really is not against flesh and blood -
This story is personal to me, and rends my heart.
Thanks for posting this.

Thank you for your service. The following link is to an interesting and admiral view by a French soldier of our servicemen in Afghanistan. The part of your story where you rushed in towards the fighting reminded me of it.

Excerpt:
“Arriving in contact with the enemy, the way they fight is simple and disconcerting: they just charge! They disembark and assault in stride, they bomb first and ask questions later - which cuts any pussyfooting short.”
Thank you for service.
Thank you for that story also.
The keyboard warrior experts here hopefully will pause and reflect on the ugliness of war when civilians are involved.
You did good. I hope you’re alright.
Very unfortunate as is your hammy cheap bathetic style. The only reason ISIS existed was US Arab Spring meddling in Syria. One of several US machinations have wrecked. I have no brief for the Muzzards and their squalid religion but the US and it’s BS crusade for ‘democracy and human rights’ propelled by K Street, Langley, and plain old fashioned greedy hubris has since the end of the Cold War the chief negative cause of instability in the world.
