They are doing triple digit deaths per day. None of them are children so the wackos who so desperately want kids and even folks under 60 to be in their bizarre denominator can find sanctuary thus. Don’t have UK’s excess deaths by age handy so don’t know what triple digit additional deaths per day does to the overall annual death rate for 60+.

In the US last year it was well over 25%. Meaning 25% more oldsters died last year than a pre Covid year.

This is not rocket science. It has always been a single choice first. Do nothing or Do something.

If you do nothing, there are no other decisions to be made. Well, other than funeral arrangements for your parents or grandparents. But you could theoretically ignore that, too. So . . . if you choose to do nothing, you have no other decisions to make.

If you decide society must do something for the oldsters, then you have other decisions. What is the something? Usually people jump up and run around the room and declare they will riot if there is more lockdown. But that is the first mention of lockdown. The focus was “something”, not “lockdown”.

Is there some “something” that we have multi country proof will work, via clinical trials or multi-country statistics? Not really. In fact, lockdown generally fails that criterion. It didn’t seem to always work. UK and US had many lockdowns in different areas. The virus didn’t care. Killed lots of oldsters. Australia had very strict lockdownish restrictions, and until recently they had very few deaths. Lockdown has not proven itself.

Lockdown also has multiple definitions. Some places “locked down” but didn’t close schools. Some places closed schools. Some places defined essential business different than other places.

So in general stop obsessing over lockdown. No one knows what it means, particularly. And let me point out another thing. Lockdown is not some endpoint on the spectrum of restrictions. You can shoot the infected and all those around the infected. That has historical precedent in plague. You can evacuate cities. That also has precedent, and NYC largely did this. They escaped the surge of winter 2020/2021 nearly entirely.

So stop going into panic when you think of lockdown. Lockdown 1) is a mild restriction and 2) there is no proof it works.

We need another “something”. Two years in, we don’t have it. So people are dying. The global deaths are in decline. It’s not like that hasn’t happened before. The next death surge is likely and as for when, let’s just suggest sometime this year.

BS it’s a “mild restriction”.

It an infringement of our rights and since it doesn’t work, is nothing more than tyranny.

You’d fit better at DU than here with your support of leftist tyranny.

“always been a single choice first. Do nothing or Do something.”

Yes.

The American understands that this decision is the sole purview of the individual.

The statist or communist believes, falsely, that the decision belongs to the state, or “community”.

“If you decide society must do something for the oldsters, then you” are a dirty communist and I’ll fight you to the end, as an American.
