I’m trying to understand how his (McCarthy’s) trust was lost? How could saying something like that make somebody not trust you anymore unless they were wanting you to keep a secret?

McCarthy seems to think Madision was making baseless (and very serious) claims just to get more face time on news shows.
Best thing for young Madison to do at this point is to move on to some other topic, something that will offer a direct and short term benefit to his constiuents.
