Classic divide and conquer.
I am old enough to remember when America was the great melting pot and one of the main job of public schools was to teach a shared history and culture.
That was also in the day when we started with a prayer and discipline was the rule. Get into trouble and you were punished twice, once at school and once at home.

I remember the same thing from the 50s & 60s. Sad that it’s all gone now, and for the foreseeable future.
