Did you read the contract? I believe they all specify the payment terms and typically it will say USD or EUR. So he is trying to change the terms. Which he is welcome to do upon contract expiration.

Checkmate, if they pay in Rubles, the demand for Rubles rises. If Vlad takes USD , he replenishes his foreign reserve currency stash that the Western bankers stole with sanctions.Win win for Vlad.

You want his resource, go take it. Europe expects them to stick to the contract while strategically not putting sanctions on that one specific commodity. If they felt they didn’t need it they would feel completely justified in sanctioning it and far too many would be ok with that. The “international finance system” won’t be the same after this conflict. That would be my guess.

I think you should be looking in the mirror when you ask that question.

I suspect Putin DID, and he may have had a say in writing them.

Don't care what you "believe", what do you know for a fact?

So he is trying to change the terms.

Maybe yes, maybe no, what is certain is it will get into court to be determined.

Which he is welcome to do upon contract expiration.

And may have done when the LAST contract expired.
