Only 1,000? That is discriminatory! How are they going to choose the 1,000? Male? Female? Binary? Non-binary? Trans male?
Trans female? LGBTQi2a+-*3.14? Black? White? Brown? A mixture of all three?
They should just throw the door open to anyone who wants to be given $1,000 a month for doing nothing. That will do it.
Morons.
Are unaccountable, unconstitutional federal taxpayer dollars possibly involved in LA County guaranteed income program?
I don’t think the linked article mentions it, but apparently one must reside in one of the “income distressed” areas of the county to be eligible for this giveaway. In other words, the hood.
That’s what was reported on the morning news here.
I expect the neighborhood liquor stores and cannabis shops to do a booming business after the money is handed out.
I heard that some (or all?) of the money will be from leftover federal Covid relief funds. So yes, most of this money could be federal.
Also, the ‘income’ will be in the form of a prepaid debit card. For families that really need the income for essentials, it’s harder to pay bills, rent, etc from that debit card. One would have to link to their checking account (if they even have one). Of course, one could use the card directly at the supermarket, gas station, etc, or get cash from an ATM.
But still, there is no requirement that the money be used only for essential needs. No public accounting of how the money is used.
They can't fill out applications.
So....filling out applications is discriminatory.
I hope the old saying that “As California goes, so goes the nation” is no long true.
What could possibly go wrong? LA is taking a page from the EDD/COVID playbook, and will eventually have to raise taxes to cover the massive fraud.
New tagline...
150 million Mexicans will be waiting to sign up.
