Germany Suffering ‘In the Most Brutal Way’ Over Russian Gas Addiction – Minister

Germany’s addiction to Russian gas has come to backfire on the European state, with one minister saying that the country is now suffering ‘in the most brutal way’ thanks to the policymaking of previous administrations.

Annalena Baerbock, a senior member of Germany’s Green party who is now serving as the country’s Federal Foreign Minister, has said that her nation is now suffering “in the most brutal way” as a result of its addiction to Russian gas.

Baerbock’s comments come as German authorities prepare for Russia to cease its supply of gas to the country, after the G7 nation outright refused to pay for its Russian gas fix in rubles.

According to a report by POLITICO, Baerbock took aim at the decisions of previous political administrations, saying that it had been obvious for a long time that relying on Russian fuel was not a good idea.

“Actually, we as Europeans have known since 2014 at the latest… that we must become completely independent of Russian fossil fuel imports, and a strategy was put in place to diversify our energy imports,” the Foreign Minister is reported as saying.

“However, we did not tackle this, and this is now taking its revenge in the most brutal way,” she continued.

Lol.. and they want to act as security for peace talks. This is another pipeline war, just like syria. The left would sacrifice 1000 times the population of ukraine for regime change in Russia. Putin stands in their way of true new world order.
Imagine who the globalists will replace him with.

President Trump warned Angela Merkel directly that she was doing the wrong thing choosing Russia as their main source of fuel. Did she listen? Nooo!

The gas is fine, it fueled the German economic boom for decades. Stupid sanctions hurt.

Nope.

It’s suffering because of greenies and their insistence on being fossil fuel

This is just classic blame shifting.

Yes, this has been a dispute between the US and Germany (among others) for decades. And, duh, it was a really bad idea to create a dependency on a politically unstable sole source.

Its like building out an electric utility infrastructure with all its generating plants in Somalia.

Reagan warned the Euros in the 1980s about this. The short-sighted fools ignored him.

The German economic boom was over in the 1970’s. Since then its been developed economy slow growth. Back when they had a boom, 1950’s-70’s their principal energy source was - coal. And energy is a small % of economic output for Germany. They will get over this pretty quick. They are a rich and capable people.

A basic grounding in the economic history of Europe, energy industries, and probably basic economics wouldn’t hurt. Its a damned big subject, but essential. I always recommend Yergin’s “The Prize” as a starter on energy, strategy and how they relate to economics. Its also a great story.

Yes he did. Part of the problem, kept on the down-low, was that German politicians were being bribed, even then.

It was justified in large part (even in the 1970’s) on anti-coal proto greenie grounds. This goes back a long way.

Exactly so. The problem was that the entire German leadership had been committed to this for 40 years. Even the mentors of the current leadership generation were tied to this strategy.

They did just great over the last 20 years. Germany was a toilet compared to the UK in the 1990s, now it is the other way around.

Stable enough before the EU got skruwed by giving into Biden’s demand for sanctions.

I was several times in Germany in the 1990’s (working with Zeiss, Leitz and some of their subcontractors in the Mittelstand). Bavaria is very charming indeed. It was most certainly not a toilet. And I visited post-wall Berlin, Leipzig and Jena.

Greenies were supporting that idiotic anti-nuclear agenda, but they were never in power to enact it.

It was Merkel who did it. Before her it was Shröder, who killed the Nabucco pipeline and pushed through the Nord Stream one and then after losing his elections went to work for a Russian state-owned gas company.

The dark legacy of Merkelism/Shröderism is on show here.

There is some hope for a turnaround now.

Russia was a bomb waiting to go off since, oh, 1914. Or probably earlier.
They can’t help themselves.
It was always dumb to set up a utility connection to those screwballs. Its OK to buy their exports, but thats something you can do without for a bit, or find other sellers. But what the Germans did is set their system up to give them (partial) control over their electric sockets - you know, what you plug your Braun coffee maker into.
