Just keep in mind that, for these activist educators, sex and gender are two separate things.

Sex is biological and there are three (male, female, and intersex). Intersex is a combination (to varying degrees across a broad spectrum) of male and female reproductive features.

Gender is culturally defined, varies from culture to culture, can vary with time even within a single culture, and creates expectations of behavior. Traditionally, gender designation and expectations of behavior were based on a person’s sex.

But not any more...

The problem is that conservatives engaging these activists sometimes don’t understand that the traditionalist’s rigid linkage between sex and gender (male = boy, man; female = girl, woman) is uncoupled. Hence the phrase “women can have penises, too!,” makes perfect sense to the trans activists and their enablers (”allies”). That is, under LGBT logic, it is perfectly acceptable for an intact biological male to self-identify their gender as a woman and claim all the rights and privileges accorded to biological females who also identify their gender as women.

In addition, these activists have no problem switching back and forth between between the sex and gender distinctions to confuse the issue when debating. Consequently, you end up with easily discernible biological separations like...oh, I don’t know...say, women’s sports, where the word women is (or, at least, was) intended as a biological reference to female humans (of all ages) being turned into a civil rights issue by activists insisting on using the term as a gender role designation. The recent debacle in women’s college swimming is a perfect illustration of why sports competitions need to be strictly sex segregated - no matter what gender the complainer imagines himself/herself to be.

Of course, the progressive left is all about diversity, so they are not going to confine themselves to swapping around just the tradition human gender designations of Man and Woman. Hence 50 “genders.” Gender, in this sense of the word, is just a category descriptor for binning all sorts of nonsense. All you have to do is look at any list of designations. By the way, the last list I saw had over 150 “gender” designations.

All good fun until you get somebody’s pronouns wrong or make light of their particular gender du jour.

There was a news report recently of an experienced substitute teacher who was summarily dismissed when she failed to properly acknowledge the “meow” of a student who identifies as a cat when calling roll at the start of class. When informed by other classmates of the assumed cat gender of the student, the teacher incautiously asked a silly question about litter boxes. This, in turn, created feelings of hurt, exclusion, and unsafety which the student immediately reported to school administration. And, from that point, the path of action for the cowards in school administration was only too clear.
