Ukraine willing to be neutral, says Russia wants to split nation

Ukraine willing to become neutral and compromise over status of the eastern Donbass region as part of peace deal, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said as another Ukrainian official accused Russia of carving the country in two.

Zelenskiy took his message to Russian journalists in a video call which Kremlin pre-emptively warned Russian media not to report.

"Security guarantees and neutrality, non-nuclear status of our state. We are ready to go for it," he said.

Turkey is set to host talks, yet Ukraine's head of military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said Russia aims to seize eastern part of Ukraine.

Zelenskiy said he would insist on Ukraine "territorial integrity."

In a call with Putin, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan agreed to ceasefire and humanitarian conditions talks.

After more than four weeks, Russia has failed to seize any major Ukrainian city and signaled it was scaling back on securing Donbass region.

Budanov predicted Ukraine's army would repel Russian forces by guerrilla warfare offensive. "Then there will be one relevant scenario left for Russians, how to survive."

Ukraine's foreign ministry spokesperson also dismissed talk of referendum in eastern Ukraine.

"All fake referendums in the temporarily occupied territories are null and void with no legal validity."

'CRUEL AND SENSELESS' The goals for what Putin calls a "special military operation" include demilitarising and "denazifying" its neighbour. Ukraine called this a pretext for unprovoked invasion.

Ukraine has described previous negotiations, some taken place in Belarus, as "very difficult".

The invasion has devastated several Ukrainian cities, caused major humanitarian crisis and displaced estimated 10 million people, nearly a quarter of Ukraine's population.

HUMANITARIAN CORRIDORS

Russia continues to move additional military units to the Ukraine border launching missile and air strikes the city of Kharkiv.

Ukrainian Interior Ministry adviser Vadym Denysenko said Russia started destroying Ukrainian fuel and food storage centres.

How about Russia withdraws all its troops areas status quo ante bellum, pays to rebuild all the destroyed areas of the Ukraine....and then Ukraine agrees to an Austrian style “neutrality.”

You have to take the Soviet surrender terms as soon as the invasion begins or they escalate.

You negotiate like the fools in Washington. Making demands when the enemy is in your capital and has laid waste to a couple of cities isn’t the strongest way to get the ball rolling. Doing it in public is also pretty silly but what do I know I guess.

Since the Ukes are likely working on nukes, is it considered an existential struggle if their country is split in half by an adversary?

The moment they sign a “peace deal” that gives up their sovereignty over the eastern regions, then from that point on they would be the invaders of the eastern self-autonomous sovereign regions.

It is in their best interest not to sign such a deal. It’s worth less than the paper it’s printed on anyways, because the Russians violated the Budapest Memorandum which supposedly assured Uke borders and sovereignty.

The Ukes need to build nukes. Nukes mean sovereignty. Paper means bullsnot.

Oh, you want a realistic approach? My bad. I was suggesting a just result.

Not a problem. Keep sending the Ukraine money and arms and let the two of them bleed to death. You and me FRiend, we're going to buy stock in whoever it is that makes those javelin misiles, baby. we'll get a real sweet return.

Putin is not done destroying the country.

Zelenski is not done begging for the rest of the world to help start WW3.

Pig Face Bidet is not done stirring the pot to cover his and his cronies money laundering country.

Ukraine has no strategic value to “us” at all. But it will cause the above mentioned war if not ended promptly. So I guess it is of strategic importance in that respect.

All this caused by one man. And he does realize it even if he is demented.

Wait till the south china sea region gets going. It will make this thing look like a ice cream social.

All because of one man. A habitual criminal who will use dementia as an excuse.

Even if Russia wanted that solution, it couldn’t afford it. As it is, Russia is on its way to a revolution.

A prolonged war isn’t in MY interest. I don’t enjoy the shortages, ridiculous gas prices and the all around bad vibes notwithstanding what the “elites” think. Must be nice to not have to do your own grocery shopping, get health care paid for by your “subjects” and a guaranteed pension.

Did we sign deals with the Norks or Iranians wherein they give up their nukes in exchange for “assurances of sovereignty” for their nations? Nope. But we did with the Ukes.

There has been talk that a deal would be:

* Ukraine agrees to never join NATO (Putin proclaims victory, adoring crowds hail him at the victory parade)
* Ukraine signs mutual defense treaties with USA, UK, France, Germany that looks a lot like NATO membership. (Ukraine gets security from any future Russian invasion)

The question right now is if Putin is willing to accept something he can spin as a victory when it really isn’t, or is he going to fight this until Ukrainian flags are flying over Sevastapol?

Memorandum on Security Assurances in Connection with Ukraine’s Accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

Memorandum on Security Assurances in Connection with Belarus’ Accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

Memorandum on Security Assurances in Connection with Kazakhstan’s Accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

Statement
Joint Declaration by the Russian Federation and the United States of America, December 2009

The Presidents of Ukraine, Russian Federation and United States of America, and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom signed three memorandums (UN Document A/49/765) on December 5, 1994, with the accession of Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Through this agreement, these countries (later to include China and France in individual statements) gave national security assurances to Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. The Joint Declaration by the Russian Federation and the United States of America of December 4, 2009 confirmed their commitment.

Excerpt:

“Welcoming the accession of Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as a non-nuclear-weapon State,

Taking into account the commitment of Ukraine to eliminate all nuclear weapons from its territory within a specified period of time,

Noting the changes in the world-wide security situation, including the end of the cold war, which have brought about conditions for deep reductions in nuclear forces,

Confirm the following:

1. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine;

2. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm their obligation to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or

political independence of Ukraine, and that none of their weapons will ever be used against Ukraine except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations;

3. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, to refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by Ukraine of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind;

4. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm their commitment to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon State party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear

weapons are used;

5. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm, in the case of Ukraine, their commitment not to use nuclear weapons against any non-nuclearweapon State party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,

except in the case of an attack on themselves, their territories or dependent territories, their armed forces, or their allies, by such a State in association or alliance with a nuclear-weapon State;

6. Ukraine, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America will consult in the event a situation arises that raises a question concerning these commitments.

This Memorandum will become applicable upon signature.

Signed in four copies having equal validity in the Ukrainian, English and Russian languages.

For Ukraine:

(Signed) Leonid D. KUCHMA

For the Russian Federation:

(Signed) Boris N. YELTSIN

For the United Kingdom of Great

Britain and Northern Ireland:

(Signed) John MAJOR

For the United States of America:
