WASHINGTON (AP) — With the last nine, unscripted words of an impassioned speech about Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, President Joe Biden created a troubling distraction, undermining his effectiveness as he returned home to face restive Americans who strongly disapprove of his performance on issues that matter most to them.
His comment that Russia’s Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power” — an assertion that his aides were forced to quickly clean up — overshadowed his larger message of solidifying the western coalition that’s confronting Moscow.
It punctuated another frustrating moment for an administration that’s struggled to regain its footing — and the American electorate’s support — in the face of an ongoing pandemic, escalating inflation and an increasingly complicated foreign policy crisis that raises the specter of nuclear conflict.
Although he’s forged a united front to punish Russia with sanctions for the invasion of Ukraine, polls show Americans feel no better about his leadership as the bloody war continues.
While running for office two years ago, Biden repeatedly told voters that “the words of a president matter,” and he promised that his foreign policy experience would serve the country well on the international stage.
There’s little doubt that Biden has been able to maintain unusual unity among allies during this war. But by speaking with more passion than caution — particularly in his speech in Warsaw — Biden has also reminded Americans of his proclivity for misstatements at a precarious time for his presidency.
Just 26% of Americans have faith that Biden can manage a crisis or the military, according to last week’s AP-NORC poll.

Kamala’s misleading/lying words in Warsaw concerning Ukraine’s admission into NATO, were probably instrumental in Putin invading when he did. Now Biden’s words are causing more trouble. It looks like the left wants a war with Russia. Sad

The whole article is another masterpiece of fiction. Biden rallied the Allie’s and has held them together? Really? That’s not how I remember it, but reporting is so much easier when you can just make this stuff up

Absolute crap. Lesko Brandon has been a follower, fumbler, and fool with regard to every international effort involved. Demanding the removal of a foreign head of state is quite a bit more than a "troubling distraction", it's a monumental foreign policy gaffe that completely removes any flexibility his own administration might have had in negotiation to end the thing. That, if it does happen, will be no thanks to Dementia Joe, even when the Ass Press jumps forward to give him full credit.
In two weeks the White House has now had to walk back three ad-libbed statements made by babbling Grandpa Simpson in front of the world. This man is going to get us into a nuclear war.

Yeah, I remember back in 2016 and 2017 when the democrats were screaming that Trump would start WW3 and a nuclear war.
Other than the China virus, the Trump years were relatively quite with regards to violence from thuggish countries. Even Kim Jong Dingding in N. Korea was drama free for those years.
The biggest excitement were "mean" tweets from Trump, and the WH press corps being drama queens. Jim Acosta having a hissy fit was big news.
