Yes: I have had a different name for Fuller Theological Seminary for decades: Fullest Theological Heresy.
This all began with Higher Criticism in the latter Nineteenth Century, following Marx, Darwin, et cetera: to wit, Man Is Smarter Than God.
John Piper - the pseudo-quasi-Calvinist-Arminian-hybridized heretic - finally exposed himself somewhat in recent times. He was my first intimation about Fuller. Eventually I back-engineered what was going on to Herbert Marcuse, Antonio Gramsci, and the Frankfurt School.
I have long considered all universities and seminaries (with very few exceptions) as nothing more than overpriced annexes of the One School: The Frankfurt School.

Your friend’s outcome is tragic, but no surprise to me.
I knew a man in the 1980s who avidly endorsed Lifeboat Ethics among other things. He said that Fuller was the only seminary he would consider attending. He described the truest faith as being “the doubting faith”.
He was not in any way I could accept a genuine follower of Christ. He was what I call a Churchian: one who shops around to find a church that “meets his needs”.
Public Universities are essentially ultra blue no matter where they are.
Angela Davis was reportedly one of Marcuse’s students in Hamburg before she was picked up by the Communist Party USA as one of their apprentices for leadership.
