Despite the public voting overwhelmingly in 2002 to term limit county commissioners, this Tuesday, the issue will be “workshopped” to get commissioners another four-year term.
The workshop includes adding four years so that each commissioner can serve twelve consecutive years.
Commissioners can only serve two consecutive terms for eight years currently.
The commissioners can’t just change the law, but they can vote to put it on the ballot as a charter amendment with gobbledygook language designed to confuse the voters, so they get their way.
This plot has been brewing for a while. The commission voted to have staff study the issue in November of 2021.
The staff knows what the commissioners want to hear.

Term limits do not determine corruption.
If you elect bad people, short term limits speed up the corruption. If they have more time they relax a bit. My theory is you get the same amount of corruption no matter the term limits.
If you elect good people, they have more time to do good.
To add to the thinking.
It is the election that is important, not the term limits. Keep eyes on the ball.............................
... and if you elect Democrats, they have more time to do evil.

Sooooo much money is flowing into PBC. So many people are moving to PBC. Even though Miami and Ft. Lauderdale are close to the South, PBC didn’t have the issues or congestion. In the last election running for County Commissioner cost well over a million dollars with the money flowing from developers. Those candidates won. The last thing PBC, esp the Northern Part, is development. The S of PBC, Delray and Boca, are essentially Ft. Lauderdale now and lost. People from NE move to PBC. People from Miami move to PBC. Not good.
Term limit the unelected bureaucracy!
This is very easy, if these county commissioners could not successfully run for higher office in those eight years, then we don’t want these losses running the county!
I would throw them out physically today
“The S of PBC, Delray and Boca, are essentially Ft. Lauderdale now and lost.”
I think of Delray as Mafia-owned—not that Broward County is clean.
I’ve been telling friends for years that every scam in the country goes through Boca (Delray is now Boca.)
“If you elect good people, they have more time to do good.”
Why do so many conservative politicians drift left over time?
