Norse is actually being quite constructive in this conversation. He’s helping me narrow down some facts on this narrative and where I’m at right now is:
The 37th MRB is a real unit designation in the Uzbek forces where it dates back to the Soviet period as a heroic unit and to at least 2009 in the Russian forces.
That made me look at the victim in this story and so far I’m not finding anything to corroborate this alleged Colonel outside of this story. Prior to 11 March 2022 he did not exist and that’s deeply odd for someone who commands a significant military unit.
Right now I’m trying to verify who the Russians say is the commander of the 37th MRB.
Apparently true, but there is also:
"The location of the 37th separate guards motorized rifle Don Budapest Red Banner Order of the Red Star Brigade, or military unit 69647, is the city of Kyakhta of the Republic of Buryatia." Used Google translate on:
https://voinskayachast.net/suhoputnie-voyska/motostrelkovie/vch69647 It was formed from the 5th Guards Tank Division.
This happened two weeks ago.
“A group of disgruntled Russian soldiers reportedly killed their commanding officer in Ukraine. A western official claimed that Colonel Yuri Medvedev who was the commander of 37 Motor Rifle Brigade, was intentionally run down in a tank by his own troops as Russian casualties continue to mount in Ukraine.
The brigade commander of one of the units was killed by his own troops, we believe, as a consequence of the scale of loss that had been taken by his brigade,” the official said. “That just gives an insight into perhaps some of the morale challenges that Russian forces are having.”
