Unclear on who the troopers were at this point. But several Russian-approved military pictures that have been released clearly show Central Asian troops in the theatre of operations.
The 37th MRB could then be a Russian unit stood up for commanding Uzbek soldiers/volunteers/mercenaries. It would make sense to put the Uzbeks into cohesive units and to give them a familiar and patriotic unit designation.
Kudos to the Russian Army if they were clever enough to do that.
So here’s the thing. While I can find ample enough information referencing the 37th MRB I’m not finding diddly squat about this supposed Colonel.
There are two names in the media for this guy who supposedly got run over by one of his own tankers.
“Col. Medvechek” (No first name that I can find)
and “Yuri Medvedev”
and neither name is checking out for me.
Which raises my BS meter that it’s the ‘victim’ that might be imaginary.
