They are helping Russian deserters cross into the EU, where they can apply for asylum status. Remember Vietnam draft dodgers who headed to Canada? Same idea. Not a sure thing, but once they cross that border, the possibilities for them expand dramatically.

Turks and Mongols are apparently highly overrepresented among Russian casualties. In other words, the population ratio might be 1:6 whereas the death ratio is 6:1. And some of the Russians are guest workers from the stans who were essentially shanghaied:

That’s got to be tempting given the lower morale in the Russian army.

Not sure offering $10,000 and/or "Western citizenship" will get very many to surrender - apparently Ukraine is also castrating Russian prisoners...
