Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša said no European country will pay Russia for gas in rubles, Evropeyskaya Pravda reported. The remarks came after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will demand “unfriendly” countries pay for gas with Russian rubles.
“I have decided to implement a set of measures to transfer payments for our gas supplies to unfriendly countries into Russian rubles," Putin stated.
Speaking ahead of the EU Summit in Brussels, Janša explained, “I don’t think anyone in Europe really knows what the ruble looks like. No one will pay in rubles.”

Its going to be interesting...
Tell me how Russia can say “I’m not selling you gas” without saying “I’m not selling gas”
I thought it was rubles or gold.
Good thing the weather is getting warmer.
...seems to be up to Russia.
And what will they say when Putin cuts them off completely?
Read that EU said they have enough gas in storage to finish this winter.
I hope Russia cuts EU gas off completely.
EU needs to move on from Russian gas.
Russia will be forced to cut them off.
India is already doing so. China has already setup a separate exchange outside of the dollar.
When politicians use words like additional supplies, reallocate, change directions, deliveries etc I suspect they are hiding a lot of logistical challenges that goes a long with that. There is a probably a lot of infrastructure in place to have these deliveries from Russia. I wonder how fast they think they can switch over to getting LNG from the U.S from a boat?
“Russia will be forced to cut them off.”
Russian Troll, I agree.
DO IT.
Not important. Russia will need western money, Euros or dollars. They can print Euros all they want. Putin made the statement as a meme. He is selling oil and getting cash. In fact its more likely that he is selling oil and no matter what he is getting in return it will be traded for western things that he needs. He will likely get this through China. But he can get it through other countries as well. Most of the step countries will certainly do business with him. His world is definitely smaller. But he is sitting on the largest pile of natural resources in the world. And he has a great relationship with the largest manufacturer in the world. Between the two of them they represent almost 2 billion people. Russia is just fine.
EU will get additional gas from Baltic Pipeline and Greek pipeline which will be finished by end of the year.
EU wants to fill gas storage resources to 80-90% full before next winter.
That means LNG will arrive in record volumes over Spring, Summer and Fall months.
i’ll ask again, if it’s all electronic-transfer, how the hell do the rubbles even come into play?
More importantly, Russia will not pay damages to Ukraine in rubles for all the damage they have caused because it’s a worthless currency. Instead they will provide the world oil or natural gas for free until they have provided the trillions necessary to rebuild.
It’s time to seize tankers carrying Russian gas and oil.
Yea, I deal with a lot of talkers too. I know the types of things that will be said. There are also certain realities that politicians never seem to address. There are far too many examples. COVId response, Syrian war, Arab Spring, Iraqi Freedom, Ukraine war (both sides U.S liars and Russian liars). Politicians are fools and their words are empty. Whatever happens I am confident that the people on both sides will be no better off.
Sounds like a he’ll of a plan. You ought to join the state department, you’d fit right in.
Europe can decouple from Russian energy, but it may be too blinded by their Green New Deal and Agenda 2030 to take the needed measures. Their leaders better hope that Putin's regime collapses and a friendlier leadership arises in Russia.
Seems like he could request payment in rmb if he want to curry favor with Xi.
