So maybe they're not doing so bad considering the land mass they control.
Can't underestimate their nuclear ability with their pinpoint accuracy hitting targets on the east border.
Chechnya is an internationally recognised part of the Russian Federation. It is not a seperate country. Kind of like what Texas is to the U.S or Hawaii
It seems like Putin is trying to force Zelensky to voluntarily surrender which would give Russia some sort of moral victory.
My question on the labs was why they didnt just destroy all the material they were holding. That was the charter they had frim the disarmament agreements. The failure to do so goes back to the Clinton administration, perpetuated over 30 years.
This is worth a serious investigation and explanations. And probably several bureaucratic careers.
Plus destroy how many Russian industries?
I’ve been following the problem for the Russian air industry. The U.S., Canada, and Europe have basically closed off their airspace to Russian commercial aviation. Russia has closed its airspace to ‘unfriendly nations’. All of this means that Russian airlines are limited to domestic flights only. And they likely will be for many years.
Russia has basically stolen any foreign-owned aircraft in its territory. Many are wearing Aeroflot livery, but they are owned by companies in Europe and leased to the Russian airline. The seized airplanes will never be able to leave Russian airspace and will never be able to get technical support or parts for them again. And of course, the leasing companies will never lease planes to Russia again, or at least for a very long time.
A decent video of how bad this is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrTrpwzVt4g
This is one industry that is screwed because of the special operations in Ukraine. I find it hard to believe that there aren’t others. Are the “Russian” bits of Ukraine worth it? I’ll bet that there are some serious people that are very displeased with how this is playing out.
Savior of the world, etc.
Nor have they succeeded in isolating Kiev. They certainly tried, and arguably are still attempting to.
I was particularly amused by the attempt to analogise this two the Iraq war, saying the U.S. should be "scared" by that comparison. Iraq was more than 6000 miles away from the U.S., separated by an entire ocean. And we took Baghdad in 3 weeks.
Russia is invading its next door neighbor, and they still haven't taken any of the largest cities. And the claim that "they don't really want to" is belief by their (rejected) demand for the surrender of Mariupol.
Good point. One could be targeted at Washington DC but goes off target and hits New York. Rinse and repeat on both sides
Curtis LeMay’s job was getting OUR bombers to the Soviet Union, not keeping their’s out.
He was CINC SAC, not ADCOM. By the time he became CINC USAF, the Soviets were doing missiles and let bombers take a back seat.
Richard Rhodes doesn’t know jack about the USAF or its history.
I did 5 years in ADCOM, and 3 in SAC (among many others)—totally different missions.
He makes some good points. I don’t believe anything the corrupt media puts out. They have no credibility with be anymore. They lied and covered up democrat corruption for years. They used lies and propaganda to attack president Trump from day one. I’m sorry if I’m skeptical but they earned every bit of it.
Is the author the same Larry Johnson who founded “Little Green Footballs”?
“we didn’t want the researchers hiring themselves out to the Iranians, Saddam Hussein or other unsavory parties.”
There are very few parties more unsavory than China and we funded them as well.
Yes, his comparisons between entirely different situations are irrational and ill-considered. Sorry Larry Johnson, thanks for playing, but come back when you are ready to make sense.
I really don’t think it is that simple.
Those maps are partially wrong, because there is NOT a linear line you can draw that says people to the West are ethnically Ukrainians and people to the East are ethnically Russian. It is a very gradual transformation the farther Northwest one goes.
And many Ukrainians actually speak Russian primarily, but still consider themselves Ukranian. And even vice versa.
I suspect that the logistic and maintenance challenges Russia is facing are echoed in thier nuclear force. However, the price of even one missile getting through is incredibly high. A multimegaton blast, even just one would make Katrina a look like a kiss from your sister.
Therefore no one is going to call thier bluff.
That was Charles Johnson. The site was good and some great discussions there until Johnson went full on weird and 360°
180° degrees I should say
Why not. Wernher von Braun ring any bells
That’s similar to what the US might look like in 2050.
The purple protuberance in the bottom center even looks like Florida.
