Excise Chicago and Cook County from the state and neither Durbin nor Duckworth would be elected to anything.
Illinois has its problems, and ALL of them can be laid at the feet of Chicago and Cook County, as they dominate state politics. The Chicago machine is probably the most corrupt political force in the country.
Same in Oregon and Washington. Metro areas create problems, and also create ballots.
