The other day in my NextDoor app a blind lady (with a blind husband) complained bitterly that the homeless had blocked the sidewalk in front of the bus stop where she exits to go home -she said her husband had to step into the street and was almost hit by a car. (this is in California where the homeless have far more rights than citizens, handicapped or not).
She asked the homeless to not block the sidewalk and they flat-out refused.
She had called the 311 number repeatedly for weeks - to no avail - and reached out to the local pols - also without result.
She was at her wit’s end and didn’t know what to do - she said she couldn’t afford über or another private car system and the bus is what she and her husband knew and knew how to use to get around.
There were people in the comments section, of course, telling her she needed to have more “compassion” for people down on their luck. It is absolutely infuriating.
In the old days - men like my late dad, would have gone out there with a few other men and cleared out that sidewalk and made damn sure it was cleared out permanently.
Same here. There have been incidents recently where citizens took action, you know what happened…
