Well, actually Putin’s roadmap included Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Poland.
What is NATO if not a defense arrangement whose founding principle is, and must remain, that if any one of its members is attacked by Russia, they all are compelled to retaliate?
So by definition Putin’s statements indicate he was going to go from country to country in the former Warsaw Pact region on the basis that western European countries in NATO (and America) don’t have the balls to honor their own mutual defense pact.
After all, neither we nor Russia have upheld our solemn pledge to leave Ukraine sovereign and neutral in return for it handing back the Soviet nukes.

Unfortunately, Trump’s unpredictably is what likely kept Putin out of Ukraine for his 4 years. Now that Russia is already in and bogged down, who knows whether this kind of escalation would end up spiraling out of control.

I would say all the signs are there to indicate that Putin is no longer a rational actor. Therefore it would be wise for Trump or anybody else to say nothing. Whatever we’re going to do, we need to keep it absolutely quiet. I can’t see that sending nuclear subs to the Russian coast is going to make any difference.
Our leaders are not making any strong suggestions of a framework for a cease fire. Zelensky continues to imagine that we will come riding in to his rescue and that clearly isn’t on the table, so there is nobody of any substance offering Russia a reasonable exit. Wishful thinking is not going to end this crisis. Ukraine will have to give up some things to get this to end, apparently, unless the strategy is to wait for Moscow to undergo internal regime change and call off their operation.
I don’t think we can take that chance, the eventual deal here does not have to be everything Russia demands today, but it cannot be everything Zelensky wants either. While Trump is maybe saying too much, Biden is saying the wrong things too, this is basically like if Winston Churchill had said during the Battle of Britain that obviously Hitler was crazy and a war criminal. He likely thought those things but this is not going to produce the needed result.
This has nothing to do with Ukraine. It is designed to make Bidan look even weaker. He just removed any postering move from the left.
I don’t have it on good authority but if I was a wagering man and I would say the subs are already off the coast and on station.
