S’what I figured.
Russia doesn't have a Soviet Politburo or appear to have a Brezhnev waiting in the wings to replace Putin. He's a President (de facto for life), not a chairman first among equals. So, the Khrushchev example of a peaceful coup doesn't apply. Russians prefer (need, really) strongman rule and I don't see Putin as being especially vulnerable or incautious. He's more the predator type, not the prey.
