I knew that years ago when people couldn’t wait to pour buckets of ice water over their heads for no reason except other idiots were doing it. It was a fundraising campaign for ALS research. It would then be followed-up by a challenge for someone else to follow suit and raise more money. That was among people who actually knew each other as well.
Much different than this stuff.

After reading the article Im a little bit surprised this has caught on as many places as they claim. I suppose we have the internet and nation wide media to blame for that.
Historically it seemed that the idea of “practical jokes” was a special type of stupid reserved for those in particular who were living in the more North East part of the country. Elsewhere it was always just a good way to get beat up and ostracized from any group.
Clearly better parenting is generally needed but that doesnt mean its going to happen.
