On Day One of his presidency, Joe Biden shut down the Keystone XL Pipeline and banned drilling on federal land as part of his plan to save the planet from so-called climate change. But one of the “alternative energy” sources he is promoting is on the skids, and solar power advocates say they need a government bailout.
The Financial Times reported:
Solar capacity installations in the fourth quarter last year were about 2.5 gigawatts, the lowest quarter of the year and down 43 per cent year-on-year, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. Now, the slowdown is stretching into 2022.
The industry has been slammed by a supply chain crunch, soaring commodity prices, tariffs and the Biden administration’s trade restrictions on panels and other equipment suspected of coming from the Xinjiang region of China — a big cog in the sector’s supply line.
Costs for new large-scale solar projects were up 18 per cent last year, breaking a long run of significant cost declines, and more than 10 per cent of projects due online this year have been delayed or called off as problems for the sector have piled up, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), an industry lobby group, said in a recent report.
The solar sector wants Congress to pass long-term tax credits for solar projects and support domestic manufacturing of solar equipment to reduce the industry’s reliance on China. Biden’s social spending bill — filled with a lot of money for “green” energy — would have done that, but the legislation that was passed by the House is all but dead in the Senate.

That’s because no one wants solar. Bring back President Trump and his energy policies.
This is a great example of why we need to make out own stuff in our own country-when China makes and ships the solar panels you need for solar energy plants to even exist and there is a shortage and a shipping problem-you are screwed...
Solar panels and on-site battery storage was ALWAYS a dead end, useful only in niche applications. It is not a serious part of any power grid.
Retool and rebuild the nuclear power generation capability throughout the world, using thorium-fueled molten salt reactors, a far safer alternative to uranium-fueled light water reactors. There is way more thorium available as fuel than there is of uranium.
Meanwhile the pukes are all buying up oil stocks
G-d, or ‘Mother Nature’ to you atheists out there, began a very natural method to store the energy from the Sun. It has been in place for many, many moons. The end result of this process is a marvelous energy source... C O A L. COAL is basically stored sunlight. With modern, Western ingenuity, it can be used to create massive amounts of heat, electricity, etc. Backward nations such as Russia and China burn it without the clean, Western methods. One of the byproducts of this use is part of the natural carbon cycle. We use the teach the Carbon Cycle in schools, since almost ALL life on Earth is carbon-based life forms. The more C02 in the world, the more life on the planet. C02 is the essential plant food, and plants provide us with many items, most importantly oxygen. It, again, is a very clean, natural process.
Come to think of it, since the democRATS are the party of abortion and death, it makes sense they want to limit the amount of C02, which would lead to a limit on life. They also despise any kind of freedom, and inexpensive energy empowers everyone to be free.
Rooftop solar has been around long enough that we can start seeing the real failure/degradation rates.
My large 2-story house depends on fossil fuel created power for about 45% of all the power I consume. The reason I put a large solar array on my roof and sizeable battery storage (which generates 55% of the power I used last year) was precisely because when Dims force it on the utility level it's less reliable, costs a lot more, and is not efficient.
But if you live in the south, have a sizeable portion of your roof facing south, and plan to be there 10 or more years, you ought to consider putting a lot of solar onto your roof. Not to slay invisible warmageddon dragons from melting all the ice at the north pole in 5 years like we were promised 20 years ago. But to keep the Greta-worshipping Dims from jacking up your energy costs. A solar system designed for your specific needs and your specific situation, not to completely power your home (which is cost prohibitive) but to provide half the power overall throughout the year (more in the summer, less in the winter) frees up the energy portion of your budget from being hacked into by the Dims. In short, us freedom loving Americans are smarter than the Dims claim to be. Plus when the one spending the money is the one also reaping the benefits, you're more liable to make it work better (why most government programs fail miserably).
Because it will never be viable on it's own merits.
No. How do you replace the roof? What will the fire department do if there is a fire? Maybe off to the side but not on my roof.
These solar farms look like crap and contribute to the high prices of food, by helping to drive up land costs.
A bit off topic but I have a family member with a fairly large solar array.... one of the things he learned is how important it is to keep the panels clean. If they go a few months without washing, the efficiency seems to drop quite substantially i.e. 10% to 20% wasn’t unusual to see.
Exactly. Even though it’s only March, 3/4 of our energy consumed today came from solar power.
And to echo your point, it’s flat rate, forever.
Residential solar benefits the homeowner. Utility solar benefits the utility.
And in that will be even more tax breaks for the homeowners to put in solar.
Plenty of people want solar and it is mandatory in all new homes in California
Yeah at least. They don't last as long as advertised. But that's nice you can add in an out-of-pocket roof to the cost of the install.
What do you mean about the fire dept if there is a fire? Are you talking about them having to kill the power if there is a fire during the day (and the sun is creating electricity)? There's a cutoff switch to the solar system about a foot next to my power meter. I asked the fire chief to come see it and talk to my solar installer a week or so after my system was installed. In my tiny suburb town he and I have volunteered on church projects together. LOL Maybe everybody knowing each other is a Christian thing or an Alabama thing. LOL
I tell you what. Don't put solar onto your house. Just keep fussing at the Dims raising your energy costs without taking matters into your own hands and giving you and your family at least a partial solution. I'm sure all the fussin' will eventually solve something. Just like I'm sure New Orleans will one day ban alcohol. LOL
The electrical stuff is a concern. Also they cut holes in a bad fire to vent smoke and heat. Just makes it all harder. May be better to protect the neighbors house and let it go.

Yeah, let me tell you what... oh, never mind.
