Ukraine’s president said Russia is trying to starve his country’s cities into submission but warned Saturday that continuing the invasion would exact a toll on Russia for “generations.” The remarks came after Moscow held a mass rally in support of its bogged-down forces.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused the Kremlin in an overnight video address of deliberately creating “a humanitarian catastrophe ” and appealed again for Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet with him to prevent more bloodshed.
“Picture for yourself that in that stadium in Moscow there are 14,000 dead bodies and tens of thousands more injured and maimed,” the Ukrainian leader said, standing outside the presidential office in the capital, Kyiv. “Those are the Russian costs throughout the invasion.”

No doubt that Russia will overpower Ukraine eventually. But after the resistance we have seen over the past month, I would be that the Russian army will have a hard time finding volunteers to serve in the occupying force. I would expect that would be a tour of duty that would be hazardous to their health.
Like them or not, the Ukrainians are Apache Tough and deserve a lot of respect.
Zelensky was dismissed as a comic and an actor. Yet he has given Putin a very bloody nose. Putin has got to be pretty upset about that.
As a ham radio operator, I’d like to remind y’all that there have been quite a few reports floating around about how the tightly controlled media and ‘net resources are all either not telling, or filtering out news and information about the Russia-Ukraine war to the Russian People. There’s a super-flood of propaganda from both sides, with no third sources.
We had them once. Some of their names were Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, The BBC, and others.
Shortwave is extremely difficult to block. Each channel takes a matching jammer transmitter, and even Russia found this challenging back in the day when shortwave broadcasting WAS the main source of news for many of the world’s isolated or oppressed people.
Shortsighted, cheapskate, Unimaginative governments have drastically cut back on shortwave in recent years, and gone for less expensive (and easily filterable)internet ‘casting. This is a poor substitute.
Radio does not stop at borders.
“Auntie Beeb” (BBC) is still in business in small ways. If you have a radio, try: 11.81; 12.095; 9.915; 6195; or 7.285 at various times of day. Canada can be heard on 6.070.
Shortwave broadcasting isn’t free, or as cheap as “Podcasting” (filterable), but it still works, and governments and private associations should take a new look at it for getting the word out.

I thought rallies were fascist and bad. Are men being forced to stay in Ukraine
Thanks for passing on the information.

I never cared that he was a comic or actor.
We should never support left-wingers anywhere, no matter how “funny” they are.
And I’ve seen some of his “act”. It’s even less funny than the garbage that passes for comedy in the US.
I’ve seen the pictures of Russian cities in ruin and Russians fleeing the country. I wonder how long they are going to put up with this before crying uncle.
Invasion is usually the easiest part. Controlling a guerilla war in a country of 40 million people swimming in anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons is going to be the difficult part.
It took 16,000 dead soviets before Russia left Afghanistan. It will probably take at least 50,000 dead Russians before Russia leaves Ukraine.
Russia wants Odessa and the port towns to control sea access and will take eastern conflict areas. I imagine they will reduce more central, western cities to rubble, pull back to east of big river, have the govt step down for “peace” and call it a victory.
Many weeks and months to go for that, Putin doesn’t care about losses, he will send as many bodies into the meat grinder needed to get it done, troops, missiles, tanks are expendable.
The Polish diplomats say the peace agreement will be in place in a week or so. I’d believe them over MSM propaganda.
Russian solders don’t volunteer for anything. They are ordered. The Russian army isn’t like the US. They are all mandatory conscript.
Not quite. About 10% of them are contract soldiers, similar to our enlistments. They sign contracts for several years and are paid quite a bit better than conscripts. But they can be sent out of the country for tasking. By law, the conscripts cannot. (Of course, that is by law. What actually happens may be quite different.)
Calling Elon Musk:
Shortwave from orbit. Impossible to stop.
The problem is how many Russians would have receivers?
