They can do because a lot of their destroyed armor is smoking.

And so is the Ukrainian army, no Air Force left, very little armor left, no ammo….they have gone to begging for planes, no fly zones, ammo, AT weapons, and foreign fighters….the tip off was when they started arming their citizens, admission there army could no longer protect them.Sorry, but the facts, from one who has been there.
There is wide analysis that Putin’s invasion of peaceful Ukraine is stalled in places. That means losses for Ukraine have made a difference while Putin’s losses are not getting the job done.
They were arming citizens because it makes sense. Militia is very useful. It means you can assign militia to hold defensive positions and guard rear areas while your regulars are free to conduct mobile operations. An invaded country can use every man. War is not a game, one has to use every advantage available.
And Ukraine has manpower as a major advantage. They can mobilize reserves and militia easily, while Russia can’t.
