“It’s possible they rejected Hoeft because he was not part of the US Army’s combat arms, and they don’t need typists who are illiterate in Ukrainian.”

Could very well be. If the Ukrainians have more volunteers than weapons with which to supply them, then give the weapons to someone who knows what to do with it. Even if they have enough weapons, it does not make any sense to bring on board someone who is not reliable. And this Hoefft guy — if he is even a real person — sure as hell does not sound as if he is reliable.

[If the Ukrainians have more volunteers than weapons with which to supply them]

Under the general mobilization order, all men from 18 to 60 have been called to arms, and are barred from leaving the country. My guess is they have all the manpower they need. The only foreign volunteers who *might* add value are those with extensive experience combating hajis in the sandpit.

I expect EOD techs who know how to rig up hillbilly mines (aka IED’s) under time pressure without blowing themselves up would be at a premium. EOD techs have ice in their veins, and understand a thing or two about improvisation.
