One of Russia's top paratroop commanders has been killed in Ukraine in the latest blow to Vladimir Putin's debilitating war effort.
The death of Col Sergei Sukharev, of the 331st Guards Parachute Assault Regiment from Kostroma, was confirmed by state TV in Moscow.
Earlier his 'liquidation' had been claimed by Ukraine's Centre for Strategic Communication and Information Security.
'Commander of the Kostroma Airborne Regiment, Colonel Sergei Sukharev… got lost in the "[military] exercises", but returned home the right way,' said the Ukrainian statement.
His deputy Major Sergei Krylov was killed alongside him, said the report.
They were among a number slain from the 'glorious' Kostroma regiment, seen as among Russia's most elite fighting forces.
Russia acknowledged that senior sergeant Sergei Lebedev, sergeant Alexander Limonov and corporal Yuri Degtyaryov were also killed.
Sukharev was seen on Russian TV in January when he led his troops back from Kazakhstan where they had been sent following a wave of protests.

Well, I am on Putin’s side here, because he is a real man and he knows what country that he is the President of and Ukraine is no Mother Teresa - but that being said, if Ukraine is truly kicking Russian a$$, then that means to me that NATO has outlived its usefulness. Can you imagine what the Krauts or Great Britain could do against the Russkies???
No more Macho for him
Ukraine is Pounding the 4th most powerful nation on the Planet , they should rethink how they make the Most Powerful Nations List
Uhhh, I wouldn’t talk too much after Afghanistan and Vietnam.
People need to read what Putin is actually doing and saying. It’s a serious threat .
For whatever reason, and I suspect it’s his Chinese alliance and Biden’s weakness, he’s decided to go full Hitler.
I think his own side is going to put down their rabid dog before he destroys Russia anymore.
The 2020 election was a real fraud.
These guys seem to prefer cell phones ...
Where have I heard this kind of fiction before.....
Oh yeah..
Lt. Lockhart: You must have seen blood trails, drag marks?
Private Joker: It was raining, sir.
Lt. Lockhart: Well that’s why God passed the law of probability. Re-write it and give it a happy ending. One killed. Make it a sapper. Or an officer. Which?
Private Joker: Whichever you say.
Lt. Lockhart: Grunts like reading about dead officers.
Private Joker: Okay - an officer. How about a general?
I really like Chris Chappy from “Task and Purpose.” I’m not him. (I wish!)
He has some valid points about the way social media has cancelled Russian linked sites. It creates the same lopsided view that Putin had that led Putin to invade. Putin was getting filtered and thus, incorrect information just the way we are getting it now. Thus, Chris has delved into what the Russians are saying and tried to independently verify their story. His, I think more complete picture, says although the Ukrainians haven’t lost, the story for them is not as rosy as they and our media would have us believe. Give him a listen and make up your own mind.

Looks like they don’t need our help after all. 🤣

+1
Since the war on terror started for us what is the highest ranking officer we or our allies lost in combat, anyone know?
As I read it, the term liquidation was used by the Ukrainians and the press used it in quotations.
Still, the one-sided nature of the reporting is obvious.
These soldiers have some balls. At least for whatever reason these top officers aren’t REMF’s.
Good riddance.
Hence the oh wait.
98th Guards Airborne Division
331st Guards Airborne Regiment
In earlier battles, these troops did not fair so well.
The reporting reminds me of the Vietnam War “body count”.
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
