EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) – A longtime Oklahoma Christian University professor was allegedly fired for bringing in a speaker who is openly gay.
“It was absolutely shocking to me,” said Emily Thornton, an OC alumnus.
Michael O’Keefe taught graphic design at OC for 41 years, until last Monday.
“[Mr.] O’Keefe was fired because he had a class where several speakers came in and talked about their personal challenges and how they overcame them,” said Thornton.

The sodomites promised us that we Christians, in our Christian churches and organizations, could do this. Remember?
Good. The alphabet people are demented, diseased, and depraved.
What? And you didn’t twig it that that meant that you couldn’t? Every day is opposite day on Bizzarro World.
O’Keef’s attorney (why does he need an attorney?) says that the gay speaker did not push “gay rights” in his speech. I’m wondering if he is willing to release the transcript of that speech?
But I had struggles being gay in an artsy fartsy career like graphic design. Sometimes my @ss was so sore I could barely walk to the studio
lol! Yeah, nothing “gay” about that.
‘“It was absolutely shocking to me,” said Emily Thornton, an OC alumnus.’
Immediately sending a mental respirator to you.
The Alphabet People behave a lot like NATO. There’s a common passive-aggressive ideology and unspoken agenda there.
We just want to love who we love. You can’t judge us. You have no right to limit us. If you oppose our infiltration and expansion into all institutions everywhere, you are a fascist!
You are crusin' for a bruisin'...
He’s not wrong.
Correct action was taken. The professor can find another job elsewhere.
“Openly gay” = just “gay”
“gay” is a wholly political term, as opposed to “same-sex attracted.” Not the same.
Therefore, a “gay” identity is by its very nature activist in its connotation.
To test this, ask this speak if he could have given the same speech WITHOUT identifying himself as “gay.”
I do not see that there is any connection to the topic he is supposed to be teaching - graphic design - whether the people were homosexuals or not. Unless they were talking about how hard it can be to properly sharpen a pencil or somesuch.
That alone should be reason enough to fire him (in a sane world).
These activists are always in the enviable position of occupying an unanswerable soapbox, as is conveniently common. Details of an employee's termination are strictly confidential, so the activists can spout any lies they want about the situation and the school is essentially gagged against responding with the facts.
I'd like to see the details of the investigation that they school conducted. I'm sure the gay propaganda that the speaker spouted was up front, in-your-face, and militant.
Fire every professor who is a sinner or who sponsors a speaker who is a sinner and sooner rather than later you have no staff. Then what?
Oh, please. Homosexual propaganda is obvious and evident to everyone. Only you can play that stupid.
Agreed. I see the lawyer spokesman said he believed the guest speaker was the cause of the termination, meaning it was not specified by the university. Another interesting fact is the gay speaker was not just an alumnus of the university but also an adjunct professor there for twenty years. That, tome, muddies the waters a bit. Was he still an adjunct? Same department of graphic design? What was the relationship between O’Keefe and this speaker, I.e., was the adjunct status terminated and O’Keefe objected to it?
Christian Universities, to my knowledge, are all about reconciliation, as is biblically mandated. My guess is that during the investigation and interviews, O’Keefe made some statements which put him on the side of affirming homosexuality as an acceptable behavior compatible with Christianity. I also am on good authority that the University likely gave him more than enough opportunity to disclaim that world view, repent of it, or explain it in a way that didn’t conflict with the University’s Christian value system. He apparently solidified himself on the non-christian affirming view.
Why would a univerity with that much capital invested in an employee for so long cut their losses unless the violation was sufficiently egreggious?
O’Keefe’s attorney, Kevin Jacobs, is a former, disgraced president of Oklahoma Christian. He was a classmate of mine at Oklahoma Christian College, before it became Oklahoma Christian University. She school used to be very conservative. In fact, OCC founded and built “Enterprise Square.” At the time, it was a nationally renowned center extolling the virtues of the free enterprise system. Ronald Regan was tangentially involved in its founding and publicity. It was completed in 1982-83. It has been shut down for many many years. But OC used to be a great School. But the attorney for O’Keefe was ultimately fired by OC for having an affair that became public and ugly. Jacob’s wife (that he cheated on) was the daughter of Dr. James Baird who was the first president of OC. It was a very sordid affair. O’Keefe has been causing problems for years. He was been trying hard to push buttons at the school. Looks like he pushed one too many.
