When the government shut down ham radio at the start of US involvement in the world wars (with Congressional declarations of war in place), they were doing it for the good of the country, much as Roosevelt took the preemptive move of interning certain Japanese nationals and US citizens of Japanese descent. With 20-20 hindsight, it seems horrible, but at the time, it wasn’t that clear.

Today, since today we are under occupation by agents of several foreign powers and certain non-governmental organizations, any move to shut down ham radio in the US would be contrary to the best interests of the American people.

The situation today is much different than in 1917 and 1941, but my point is that the power exists to do the same at the stroke of a pen, and “they” would have no hesitation doing just that.

I fully understand the need for security. My Father worked on the Manhattan Project and he made it clear how important security was. I also held a secret clearance for many years.

Yes, most hams are on our side, Barry Goldwater was a prime example.

I can't help but see this as part of that final scene in Life of Brian in which Brian's being crucified and hoping someone brings him down (like what his crossmate says happens) and his old radical group comes by to give Brian encouragement for sticking to his convictions, and then they all leave.
